the the Japan/South Korea/Hong Kong co-production "Asian Curse Story"
(current title), a three-part omnibus horror film.
The Miike-helmed Japanese instalment "Box" stars model and actress Hasegawa
Kyoko, who was personally selected by Hong Kong producer Peter Chan.
Shooting took place this month at an elementary school in Aizu Wakamatsu,
Fukushima over two weeks.
"Box" synopsis:
As a child, novelist Kyoko (Hasegawa) accidentally caused the death of her
twin sister, who was the favorite of their father (Watabe Atsuro). She
meets an editor who is the spitting image of her missing father, and begins
to suspect that he may be involved somehow. One day, an invitation arrives
at Kyoko's office. The address written on the invitation is the place where
her sister burned to death...
"JSA" director Park Chan-wook is in charge of the South Korean entry, while
"Infernal Affairs" director Andrew Lau will be handling the Hong Kong
segment. Their respective casts have yet to be announced.
"Asian Curse Story" is scheduled for an autumn release in Japan, South
Korea and Hong Kong, and may also be submitted to the Venice and Berlin
film festivals.

In der Zwischenzeit ist
eine UK-Scheibe von Full Metal Yakuza
erschienen.
-----------------
AFN bringt noch in diesem Jahr The Bird People of China sowie Salaryman Kintaro heraus.

Auf der DVD befindet sich unter anderem ein Trailer zu Miikes GRAVEYARD OF HONOUR, ob das als indirekter Hinweis auf die nächste Miike-Veröffentlichung von Tartan zu verstehen ist?

This time, it's the year 2010 in Yokohama, and something funny is going on. Animals are behaving oddly, and there are sightings of gigantic crab-like creatures throughout the city, but primary school teacher Ichikawa (V-cinema legend Aikawa Sho in the 100th film of his career) has too much on his mind to notice. His wife is stepping out on him, his daughter is a teenage prostitute, and his son is being bullied relentlessly at school. And on top of it all, Ichikawa is a lousy teacher and knows it. The only thing that gives him comfort is the fond memory of Zebraman, a superhero TV series broadcast in the 1970's and cancelled after seven episodes due to dismal ratings. One night, after Ichikawa has donned his homemade zebra suit, he hears something outside and goes to investigate. Out in the street he encounters a suspicious character, and a fight breaks out. As it turns out, his opponent is an alien, and soon the place is swarming with them, all occupying the bodies of their human hosts in a diabolical bid to take over the world. Will Ichikawa fail as usual, or has the time come for him to stand up and fight?
Billed as Miike's first family film, "Zebraman" is a funny, clever piece with its heart in the right place. With bits for the hardcore Miike fan as well as newbies, "Zebraman" is sure to please just about everybody.
This Premium Box edition includes the feature film, bonus disk including making-of interview, booklet, single CD, 2010 year calendar (the year the movie is set in), special pin, zebra ballpoint pen, character seal, and theater-use 35mm film, all housed in a gorgeous zebra box. Don't miss this one!
Leider nur mit japanischen Untertiteln.
