NASH BRIDGES (Tv-Serie 1996-2001) http://imdb.com/title/tt0115285/maindetails
Nash is a smart-alecky police inspector (Don Johnson) who's seen fighting crime on the streets of San Francisco, while driving around in his screaming yellow 70ish Plymouth Hemi Barracuda. He's the typical super-cop on the beat, who always wins in the end. Unfortunately, his personal relationships leave much to be desired. He has two ex-wives, a 16-year-old daughter needing a lot of supervision, and a father with Alzheimer's disease who keeps getting kicked out of retirement homes and dropping by to visit.
87 TOPAZ (2004) http://imdb.com/title/tt0421538/maindetails
A grandson remembers his grandfather's life, his love of cars, and the loss he experienced in his final years as he succumbed to Alzheimer's disease. Personal writings, old photographs, and super 8 home movies are gracefully intertwined with digital video in a meditation on memory, record-keeping, and automobiles.
CHIKA'S BIRD (2004) http://imdb.com/title/tt0431683/maindetails
A ten-year-old Japanese-Canadian girl who struggles with family and school - a grandfather with alzheimer, a frustrated mother, an indifferent teacher, and intolerant peers. Chika's Bird is a coming-of-age story about a young girl finding her strength through her connection with her grandfather and the origami he folds.
DANGEROUS CROSSWINDS (2005) http://imdb.com/title/tt0396550/maindetails
"Dangerous Crosswinds", a feature-length drama from filmmaker Bill Millios, is the story of a Pulitzer prize-winning reporter who hits a career roadblock and returns to New Hampshire, where he was raised, to regroup. Once back, he unexpectedly finds himself at the center of a story unlike any he's covered before-one involving his own role in the mercy-killing of a close friend. The script of Dangerous Crosswinds centers on Harry Toland, a New Hampshire native who has built a highly successful career at a New York City daily paper. As the film opens, Harry has just been fired over a controversial book he wrote supporting a person's right to die. The uproar has proven too much for the paper, which has let him go. Harry, recently divorced, opts to return to New Hampshire's Seacoast Region, where he grew up, to reassess his life's direction. He takes a job with a local paper, The Hampton Eagle, which is edited by an old college buddy. As Harry reconnects with other figures from his past, he learns the wife of one of his former UNH mentors is afflicted with an advanced case of Alzheimer's disease. Though a firm believer in a person's right to die, Harry later begins to question the circumstances of the situation he suddenly finds himself in the middle of. His search for answers leads him on a mini-odyssey of encounters with a wide range of local people from vastly different backgrounds, each of whom knows a piece of the real story. As the clues add up, Harry is forced to confront a reality that he could never have imagined-one complicated by his own role in the death of a cherished friend under circumstances that are much different than what he first imagined.
Long Shadows: Stories from a Jewish Home (2003)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0758002/maindetails
The largest population of Holocaust survivors, per capita, outside Israel lives in Melbourne, Australia. These survivors are facing death and isolation for the second time, as they make the traumatic transition to an aged care facility. Dementia, memory loss and physical immobility contribute to a splintering of identity. Removed from their homes, their familiar routines, their families and the outside community, past horrors come flooding back. Exploring three levels of care from the most independent to the most dependent at Melbourne's biggest Jewish aged care facility, LONG SHADOWS examines the impact of institutionalisation for three survivors and their spouses. Harold, guides us flamboyantly through this teeming "tower of Babel" that houses up to 600 residents, and through his personal tale of tragedy and love. Evelyne, a child survivor aged 60, must face institutionalisation prematurely when an accident renders her dependent. And life inside the Dementia unit for Alzheimer's sufferer Dora shows how massive trauma effects sufferers of dementia and the people who love and care for them. All three stories are peppered with humour, delivered with honesty and underscore the importance of love for survival. LONG SHADOWS: Stories from a Jewish Home examines the implications of caring for ageing Survivors of the Holocaust.
SWIMMING ON THE MOOn (1999)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0160942/maindetails
Senior citizen and felon Thomas Hatch is awarded a ninety-nine-year sentence. Hatch avoids the prison term by faking senility and is sent to an elderly facility. There he meets and falls in love with Fiona, an elderly woman who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease. Fiona lives each day of her life waiting to die. Fiona eventually learns about Hatch's falsehood. She promises not to disclose his secret under the condition that he promises to kill her.
THE ROAD TO GALVESTON (1996)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0117492/maindetails
Jordan Roosevelt, at 65, found herself alone, destitute, and depressed. Up against the wall, she took heart from the suggestion of a friend, a blind woman who was a nurse: enter a foster care program in which one takes care of patients in their own home. The patients she cares for are Alzheimers sufferers, and she shares her home with three other women in advanced stages of the disease, one (Gayle) wheelchair bound. And with these women, Jordan realizes a lifelong dream - to feel the ocean breeze. An accidental find of a coffee can stash of cash, buried by her late husband, makes the trip possible. Based on the true story of Peggy Lee of Camilla, Texas (the Alzheimers, the patients, and the foster care program are actual, the trip to the Galveston beaches is fictional).
REAGAN (1998)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0143056/combined
When he left the White House in 1989, Ronald Reagan was one of the most popular presidents of the century. A former Hollywood star and seemingly simple man, Reagan was consistently underestimated by his opponents. One by one, he overcame them all. Incorporating interviews with key political insiders, former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, and members of the Reagan family, "Reagan" explores the man who saw America as a "shining city on a hill" and himself as its heroic defender. The program follows Reagan's life from his itinerant boyhood in Illinois to his battle with "communist agitators" in the Screen Actors Guild and his dramatic 1980 victory over Jimmy Carter. Only 70 days into his presidency, a would-be assassin's bullet left him more debilitated than anyone knew. Reagan's massive military buildup and bold challenges to the Soviet Union caused his critics to portray him as a trigger-happy cowboy. But he negotiated deep cuts in nuclear weapons and resolved to end the Cold War. Five years after leaving office, Reagan announced he had Alzheimer's disease and dropped from public view. RAZOR (2006)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0758778/maindetails
An elderly man, nicknamed Razor, has just returned to the South Bronx, after spending fifty years in prison. As the effects of Alzheimer's slowly deteriorate his mind, he tries desperately to finish a task that he believes will give meaning to his life.
OUTSIDE A DREAM (2005)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0765834/maindetails
Michael Stevens, a man in his late seventies, struggles to cope with the effects of Alzheimer's disease and the recent death of his wife Charlotte. Motivated by the memories they shared and searching for a poem they wrote together Michael fights desperately to hold on to their love.
ORI UME (2002)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0368112/maindetails
About a family shouldering an unexpected responsibility when Alzheimer's disease strikes their grandmother. The superb cast portrays this serious and realistic situation with heart-warming compassion, stressing the importance of empathizing with the victims of this difficult disease.
ONE OF FIVE (2002)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0420043/maindetails
Here are inspiring portraits of five families, each caring for an emotionally handicapped, or alcohol-addicted member. The love the family members feel for their disabled relatives is evident, as the film shows the joy, as well as the burdens their care imposes. Gammi is an elderly African American woman with Alzheimer's disease. Her family members are tolerant of her repetitive and often senseless babbling. They stroke and comfort her, and laugh fondly at her foibles. Michael is an eight-year-old with Downs' syndrome. His mother, who already had two children, knew ahead of time that she would have a disabled child and chose not to abort. The family does not regret the decision, and, in fact, feels Michael is an important part of their lives. Shane is an impoverished teenager from Appalachia. His father left the family when he was young and his mother is a recovering alcoholic. Jenny, a college student, also has an alcoholic parent. It has not been easy for her to deal with confronting her mother about her alcoholism. Dale is a middle-aged paranoid schizophrenic. The family accepts the fact that he sometimes has bizarre visions. In a society in which multitudes of people share similar mental disorders and are abandoned by their families or their communities, these portraits are a reminder that patience and fortitude bring their own satisfactions.
OED YR ADDEWID (2002) http://imdb.com/titl...273/maindetails

Zitat

Maureen has her hands full at home and can't take care of her father William, who may be suffering from Alzheimer's. Her brothers - Alun, an alcoholic trumpet player, and John, an insensitive businessman - don't really want to help. William, a lifelong socialist, feels angry and resentful towards the British government which has abandoned him in his old age. Having been persuaded by his children to buy a council house in the booming 80s, he discovers that this selfsame government, which made such a virtue of home ownership some ten years earlier, now expects him to sell the property in order to pay for his care. Isolated in old age, Williams secretly decides to put into action a plan to get back at the system.

NU REN SI SHI (1994) http://imdb.com/titl...767/maindetails

Trouble strikes one day when Bing's mother dies of a stroke, leaving her husband old Mr. Sun. Alzheimer's Disease is diagnosed. From that day on, the family's daily life is thrown into a poignant. Old Mr. Sun develops a tendency to wander off and get lost, he wakes up yelling in the middle of the night plus he is rude and disobliging ... all this, along with May's already full schedule as wife, mother and employee, drives her close to the edge of her endurance. The very last thing they all wanted has to happen: old Mr. Sun has to go into a Nursing Home. But it does not turn out quite like they expected...

Monster Road (2004) http://imdb.com/titl...538/maindetails

Zitat

Monster Road explores the wildly fantastic worlds of legendary underground clay animator Bruce Bickford. Tracing the origins of his remarkably unique sensibility, the film journeys back to Bickford's childhood in a competitive household during the paranoia of the Cold War and examines his relationship with his father, George, who is facing the onset of Alzheimer's Disease. Bickford's films, especially the dark and magical clay animations he created for Frank Zappa in the 1970s, have achieved cult status worldwide. Entirely self-taught, the 56-year-old Bickford works alone in a makeshift basement studio in his house near Seattle. Bickford's father George, a retired Boeing engineer of the Cold War era, is the other main character. George's talent for maximizing the space inside airplanes and missiles parallels his son's animations, which often contain dozens of inch-tall figures fighting battles on a tiny set. George's wondrous musings about the universe reveal a deep admiration for the implicit architect of such splendor while atheism prevents him from admitting the possibility of a God. Along with the wonder of creation, George considers the pain of a life spent disengaged from his family and centered on the imperfections in those around him.

A documentary film by Mika Ronkainen about the phases of a family and the cycle of generations. A story about a middle-aged woman who decides to change the direction of development, even just for one summer. Anitta Kolehmainen (42), a mother of five children, lives in a small village of Karunki close to Swedish border in the Finnish Lapland. Both of Anitta's parents are in an old-age home thirty kilometers north from where Anitta lives with her family. Anitta's father, Lauri, has got Alzheimer's disease. After having several strokes, her mother, Viivi, has lost her ability to speak and move by herself. Anitta's parents live in separate rooms in the same corridor. Anitta would like to take better care of her parents, but she can't due to the situation in her own life. She's feeling guilt about it. Three of Anitta's children are adults and they have moved away from home already. The oldest one, 23-year-old Jari, is about to become a father. The youngest two are 10-year-old Markus and 5-year-old Roosa. Anitta has entered a stage, where she has to re-think about what's imporatant to her in her life. Big changes are about to happen to her: she's becoming a grandmother for the first time, and her marriage is in a crisis. Anitta's childhood home, Ojalanpää, which is situated 60 kilometers north from Karunki, has been empty and cold for several years. A small farm, built by Anitta's parents, has gone thru the same big change as a big part of Finnish countryside: the villages are getting smaller when people are moving to towns and cities. The people from this farm have moved to an old-age home. In the beginning of the summer, Anitta finds a solution to both her problems. She takes her father out of the old-age home, and moves back to her childhood home, Ojalanpää, with her father and the two children, Markus and Roosa. Their summer begins.

The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat (1987) (TV) http://imdb.com/titl...487/maindetails

Zitat

Based on an Oliver Sacks case study, Dr P is a baritone opera singer who cannot distinguish his students until they speak. He suffers from visual agnosia, more specifically prosopagnosia, which only allows him to see details that he must cognitively assemble to identify an object. For example, he can describe a rose as a "convoluted red form with a linear green extension," but can only identify it as a rose by smell. Dr S, the neurologist, examines him, first in a clinic, then in his home environment, and deals with Dr P's concerned wife, culminating in a heated argument about whether Dr P's paintings are abstract art or the result of his occipital degeneration. Dr S only learns how Dr and Mrs P cope with the situation, but cannot diagnose the situation. The opera, filmed cinematically on locations and sets and not on a theatrical stage, is intercut, sometimes jarringly, with footage of Oliver Sacks reflecting on his encounters with Dr P, as well as scenes of a pathologist examining the real Dr P's brain, identifying his condition as a rare but not unique symptom of Alzheimer's, for until near the very end his only symptoms were strictly occipital, suggesting, perhaps, a tumor. This material, which is sometimes redundant, gives the film the effect of a documentary with staged reenactments, only the reenactments are operatic rather than standard non-musical drama.

========

As the signs continue to pile up, Kerry and Mark use a fake patient to convince Dr. Lawrence of his Alzheimer's.

Adolf-Grimme-Preis 2002 in Gold.

Zitat

While family and friends seem to think everything's fine, he notices some dramatic changes between his mother and father, Jack. He stays at their home afterward and learns the dark secrets of his seemingly perfect family. Lies, affairs, and afflictions. Then after a life-threatening accident, the family realizes they have to come together. After bitter fights and twists in fate, the house slowly becomes a home, recognizing....it's never too late.

A CLEAR VIEW, http://german.imdb.c...itle/tt0478997/

Zitat

In terms of content, I found it a very sympathetic approach to a difficult subject, and one which advocates for seniors and Alzheimer's sufferers could very easily use as a teaching tool. At the same time, it manages to do an exceptional job of "humanizing" its subjects; rather than being "just another 'disease' film," it succeeds in accomplishing its director's goal of being first and foremost "a love story." I am very excited to watch where the Cobblestone team goes from here.
